Indore: Truckers and transporters in Indore, a major commercial hub in Madhya Pradesh, are advocating for the implementation of a modern vehicle monitoring system at checkpoints to improve transparency and streamline logistics. They note that around 4,000 commercial vehicles leave Indore daily, a number that increases during festive periods.
The government's initiative to replace check posts with checkpoints and eliminate some of them to support the smooth flow of vehicles is hindered by the lack of an effective monitoring system. The Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association, led by president CL Mukati, is urging authorities to develop a technology-based solution to oversee vehicle movement at checkpoints, aiming to prevent disruptions and extortion.
Associations representing transporters and truckers have written to Transport Minister Rao Uday Pratap Singh, requesting the adoption of a technology-driven monitoring system for transparent vehicle movement. Additionally, they are pushing for the implementation of the Gujarat model in the state to accelerate these efforts.
On a related note, truckers have also requested the establishment of a helpline and an official app by the state transport department for reporting issues and complaints. The recent decision by the Madhya Pradesh government to eliminate all checkposts on interstate borders has been positively received by transporters advocating for smoother transport operations and reduced corruption.
